European classification used to assess the fire resistance of building components, including walls, floors, ceilings, doors and other structures.<br \/>\nIt defines an element&#8217;s ability to withstand fire for a given period, measured in minutes (from 30 to 240 minutes).<br \/>\nThe three letters <strong>R<\/strong>, <strong>E<\/strong>, and <strong>I<\/strong> represent specific criteria that determine the performance of the tested element.  <\/p>\n<h3>Letter meanings :<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<p><strong>R<\/strong> &#8211; <strong>Mechanical resistance<\/strong> (Fire resistance): This component evaluates the element&#8217;s ability to maintain its structural stability when subjected to high heat.<br \/>\nIn other words, it must not collapse under the effect of fire for the duration indicated (30, 60, 90, 120, or 240 minutes). <\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong>E<\/strong> &#8211; <strong>Flame-tightness<\/strong> (Integrity): This criterion measures the element&#8217;s ability to prevent the spread of flames, hot gases and smoke to unaffected parts of the building.<br \/>\nThe element must remain watertight for the specified time, preventing the fire from spreading. <\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong>I<\/strong> &#8211; <strong>Thermal insulation<\/strong>: This criterion indicates the element&#8217;s ability to limit heat transmission to the side not exposed to fire.<br \/>\nThis means that even if one side of the wall is in contact with flames, the temperature on the other side must remain relatively low<span style=\"background-color: transparent; color: var( --e-global-color-text ); font-family: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-family ), Sans-serif; font-weight: var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight );\">(140\u00b0C on average, or var( --e-global-typography-text-font-weight );\">) to prevent the fire from spreading by thermal conduction.<\/span> <\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Time periods (30 to 240 minutes) :<\/h3>\n<p>The numbers (30, 60, 90, 120, 240) indicate the time in minutes during which the building element can maintain the three criteria R, E, and I against fire.<br \/>\nFor example : <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>REI 30<\/strong> means that the element is capable of withstanding 30 minutes in terms of stability (R), flame-tightness (E) and thermal insulation (I).<\/li>\n<li><strong>REI 240<\/strong> means that the element can withstand up to 240 minutes under the same conditions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Importance of this standard :<\/h3>\n<p>The REI classification is crucial in building design, as it guarantees a high level of safety in the event of fire.<br \/>\nDepending on the type of building (residential, industrial, commercial), the length of resistance required can vary. structures against fire. <\/p>\n<p>It is divided into different parts (from 1 to 9) as follows:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<p><strong>EN 13381-1<\/strong>: Concerns performance testing of protective products for <strong>steel columns<\/strong>.<br \/>\nIt assesses how a product applied to a steel column protects it against the effects of fire. <\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong>EN 13381-2<\/strong>: Applies to <strong>concrete floors<\/strong>.<br \/>\nIt describes the method for testing the performance of protective products or systems used to protect concrete slabs. <\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong>EN 13381-3<\/strong>: Covers <strong>concrete structures<\/strong> other than floors.<br \/>\nIt assesses how products applied to concrete elements protect against fire. <\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong>EN 13381-4<\/strong>: Specifies methods for testing <strong>concrete columns<\/strong> and the performance of protection systems applied to them.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong>EN 13381-5<\/strong>: Applies to <strong>steel-concrete composite floors<\/strong>.<br \/>\nIt describes the test method for assessing the performance of products used to protect these types of structures. <\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong>EN 13381-6<\/strong>: Focuses on <strong>wooden structures<\/strong>.<br \/>\nIt assesses the products used to protect wooden elements against fire. <\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong>EN 13381-7<\/strong>: Concerns <strong>suspended roofs and ceilings<\/strong>.<br \/>\nIt specifies performance tests for protection systems applied to these types of structures. <\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong>EN 13381-8<\/strong>: Is a standard dedicated to <strong>composite materials<\/strong>.<br \/>\nIt assesses how protective products applied to composite structures (such as steel-concrete composite beams) provide protection against fire. <\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong>EN 13381-9<\/strong>: This part concerns <strong>masonry walls and partitions<\/strong>.<br \/>\nIt specifies test methods for assessing the performance of protective products applied to walls and partitions. <\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>These measure the ability of an element (such as a wall, door, steel or concrete structure) to maintain its integrity, stability and thermal insulation under the effect of a fire for a certain period of time.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Main parts of ISO 834 :<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<p><strong>Temperature-time curve<\/strong>: This defines a standard temperature curve used to simulate temperature rise in a fire.<br \/>\nTest samples are subjected to this curve to assess their fire behavior. <\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong>Evaluation criteria<\/strong>: Items are evaluated according to three main are the main sections of <strong>EN 13501<\/strong>:  <\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<p><strong>EN 13501-1: Fire classification of construction products and building components<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It describes the system for classifying materials (such as floor coverings, panels, etc.) according to their reaction to fire.<br \/>\nThe classification is based on several tests measuring flammability, flame spread, smoke production and ignited droplets. <\/li>\n<li>Classes range from <strong>A1<\/strong> (non-combustible) to <strong>F<\/strong> (untested or low fire resistance), with sub-categories for smoke<strong>(s1, s2, s3<\/strong>) and droplets<strong>(d0, d1, d2<\/strong>).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p><strong>EN 13501-2: Fire classification of building components based on their resistance to fire<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It concerns construction elements such as walls, ceilings, floors and partitions.<br \/>\nThey are classified according to their ability to maintain :
